Fairmont Minnesota is known as being the “city of lakes.” It’s very clear why! There are five lakes chaining together right within town, you can access all 5 of them as long as you don’t have a deep boat. Fairmont, Minnesota is great for fishing, hiking, frisbee golf, swimming, boating, kayaking, and really any outdoor adventure! Plus, it’s roughly a two hour road trip from the twin citites!
In this blog, I’m going to share the fun things I did while visiting this Southern Minnesota Town, Fairmont.
Where to stay:
All of these hotels are within walking distance of each other, so your preference should be made based on how long you stay within the hotel. I personally like to spend as less money as possible on hotels (but if it’s a themed hotel or Airbnb, cabin, that’s different), because I’m just sleeping and getting ready there. Otherwise, I’m out exploring most of the time.
- Super 8 – they allow dogs, and when you stay there you get a dog bag for your pup! (We stayed here).
- Hampton Inn – This is an upgraded hotel, one of the fancier ones in the area!
- Best Western – This had green mill attached to it, and they had live music the weekend we went!
Where to Eat:
I could go on and on with this list, as the food places here were so good! The locals for sure know their food, and can recommend exactly what you’re craving (even when you don’t know)!
- Jakes Pizza – a local favorite, and i can see why. Get the mac + cheese pizza!
- El Agave – there margaritas were so good! you can even mix the flavors with no charge!
- The Marina – great views of the lake, and food for any one, even picky eaters.
- Edi’s Restaurant – great breakfast and small town charm! You mix your own hot chocolate!
- Grab a beer at Blazer’s or Shenanigans! or Shenanigans!
What to Do:
- Fairmont Opera House!
- Watch a show, musical, or community event.
- They can also host events too, such as weddings!
- This place is historical and has much of the same architecture it had when it was built with necessary upgrades of course!
- There is also two bars located within the opera house!
- Cedar Park
- There are paved and unpaved trails here!
- Right on the lake front.
- 2 different 18 hole courses for disc golf
- There are many other parks right in town, many with playgrounds for kids, a few are:
- Gumsrud park
- Amber lake park
- Sylvania park
- Lincoln Park
- Shop around at the boutiques downtown!
- Walk around the town, and find the cute colorful murals!
- Go bowling at Bowlmar Lanes
